The Meryton Mysteries continue!

Have you ever gotten to the end of a book (or a series of books), and you’re just not ready for it to be over? Me too!

I thought the Meryton Mysteries were done when Darcy and his Lizzy tied the knot. (Shows you what I know…) Wow, I was wrong. It turns out, they weren’t done telling their story at all. So, like an obedient author, I sat down in front of my computer and started typing. And I’m so excited to share my new story with you!

Murder and Romance at Rosings!

Mix a sweet romance with a dollop of mystery, and what do you get? A new swoon-worthy JAFF novel featuring my favorite detective duo!

This summer, we visited my family in Oregon and California. I was wrapping up my latest cozy mystery and was chomping at the bit to return to Regency England.

Since airport layovers offer plenty of time for reflection and my kiddos were happy watching The Pink Panther, my hubby and I had this discussion:

 

Me: “I’m so excited to start my next project, but I don’t know who to kill next. Who do you think?”

Hubby: “Who have you killed so far?”

Me: “Hmm, let’s see … well, as much as I’d like to, I can’t kill Wickham again.” (That’s not really a spoiler. What mystery writer wouldn’t kill him first?!)

Hubby: “What about methods?”

Me: “Poison is my favorite. Pistols are too bloody.”

(It was at this point that the woman sitting behind us at Gate 7B got up and moved.)

 

So that’s how our vacation began. And by the end of it, I had a story. This story!

You see, my mom is a writer too. We were throwing ideas around when she said: “Why not kill XXX next?”

It was just the “Ah-ha!” moment I needed. The story started unfolding and I typed as fast as I could to keep up. I have to say that I absolutely love this Darcy and his interfering wingman.

So, thank you, Mom! And thank you, Airport Lady, for not calling security on me!

The Meryton Mystery Series is complete (for now…)!

Is that a cryptic title or what? Sorry about that. You see, this morning I put my 3 Meryton Mystery books together in a box set (with 3 books for the price of 2, it’s a steal!) and while bunching my beloved stories up, I got sad at the thought of never seeing Mr. Tanner or Lord Harvisham again. And what about the young soon-to-be barrister who caught Georgiana’s eye? *sigh*

While I can’t say I’ll be able to add to their stories soon, I can admit that I’ve already outlined the next 2 books. (I know, sad right? I can hear “Let it Go” playing in my head as I’m typing this.) They’ll have to wait their turn, but just maybe there’ll be more to come…

Until then, I hope you enjoy the first three! I had no idea Meryton had so many secrets until I started writing them. What a place!

A new book … a new series … and a sale!

Have you seen the movie The Bachelor? You know, the one with Chris O’Donnell and Renée Zellweger? There’s a scene toward the beginning — the part where you know the story’s about to get really good — where he’s riding in an elevator with several other gentlemen shuffling uncomfortably in their suits and ties. They’r getting ready to propose in the romantic Starlight Room. The elevator opens, and each of them steps out to embrace the woman to whom they’ll propose.

I’d seen this elevator scene dozens of times, but this time, I pushed pause.

Excitedly, I turned to my husband and pointed at the tv, shouting, “That’s it! That’s it!”

“Good. Write it down before you forget,” he said patiently, all too accustomed to my sudden bursts of inspiration … and my sometimes *ahem* faulty memory.

To make a long story short, my husband (romantic that he is) watched the rest of the movie while I started writing in a notebook. What if I wrote the stories of those men in the elevator?
